Born and raised in New
York, Rosario Dawson has a unique mixed heritage--Afro-Cuban, Puerto
Rican, Irish, and Native American--and a fast-talking style. She
was discovered in 1995 sitting on her stoop, by filmmaker Larry Clark,
as he was looking for teenagers to cast in his low-budget directorial
debut, Kids. Rosario's first acting role in the controversial
and powerful pseudo-documentary brought her to the attention of Spike
Lee, who cast her in his 1997 film, He Got Game.
Next came Light It Up, opposite
Forest Whitaker and Usher, and King of the Jungle, alongside
John Leguizamo. Rosario's first starring role in a big-budget movie
came with the comic book adaptation/social commentary Josie and
the Pussycats.

"I like romantic comedies and all that kind of stuff. But seeing a klutzy woman walk around and be insecure in front of a guy in order for him to be able to handle her sexuality? Like she's beautiful, but she doesn't know it, so it's cute? No. I want to see a woman walk in there and be like, "What? I have breasts and you're staring at them. Hmmm. Interesting."
