In love with the idea of becoming an actress from the age of five, Jessica Alba was 12 before she
took her first acting class. Nine months later, she was signed by
an agent.
Alba made her feature film debut in
1993 in the comedy, Camp Nowhere. She got her lucky break
when an actress in a principal role suddenly dropped out. Jessica
cheerfully admits it wasn't her prodigious talent or charm that
inspired the director to tap her to take over the part. It was her
hair, which matched the original performer's.
After a recurring role in Nickelodeon's
comedy series The Secret World of Alex Mack, and two seasons
on Flipper, Alba made several films and TV appearances. In
1999 she appeared in two of that year's hottest movies, Never
Been Kissed opposited Drew Barrymore, and the quirkly comedy
Idle Hands.
Her career finally took off when she played the lead of ass-kicking heroine,
Max, in James Cameron's ultra cool sci-fi drama, Dark Angel.
