     Catherine Lisa Bell was born August 14, 1968, in London, England. Of British and Iranian descent (Catherine speaks fluent Farsi), a 3-year-old Catherine relocated to Los Angeles with her family.
     While attending UCLA to study medicine, with the intention of becoming a surgeon or a biomedical engineer, Catherine began modeling, hired an acting coach to help with her shyness, and fell in love with acting.
     Diagnosed with thyroid cancer at age 21, Bell remembers the frightening medical news as a positive wake-up call. Since the removal of her thyroid, she says her health is her number one priority.
     Catherine started her acting career with guest appearances on television shows and played Isabella Rossellini's body double in 1992's Death Becomes Her before landing her breakthrough role of Lt. Col. Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie on JAG.    
       Catherine met her husband, Adam Beason, on the set of Death Becomes Her. They live in the Hollywood Hills near LA, with their daughter, Gemma, and their two Italian greyhounds, Zoe and Leo.
